Six years ago I had a very scary birthday---it had a ZERO in it!---and the thought of turning 50 made me realize how precious little time I have to finish my assignment. I made a quality decision that day that I would invest as much of my time as possible in training younger leaders. Discipling others has become one of my greatest passions!
That is why I started our Bold Venture discipleship retreats in 2010. Since that time we have hosted these events for men, women, and pastors--and we have also sponsored retreats in other countries. In the women's events I bring powerful speakers who serve as mentors and spiritual mothers to women who feel called to leadership. In the men's events I bring pastors and gifted leaders who can serve as fathers and coaches to the guys. And in every event, people are challenged to grow in Christ and to make discipling others a priority.
…Please don't miss the opportunity to attend one of our Bold Venture events this fall. If you are a woman who feels called to some level of leadership, or you have a passion to confront the abuse of women globally, or you simply want to connect with a mentor and other like-minded Christian women, Bold Venture is a perfect place to do that.
...Our women's event will take place at Good News Church in Augusta, Georgia, from Sept. 18-20. You can see from the poster below a list of our speakers. They include four staff pastors, a traveling evangelist, two stay-at-home moms who are involved in ministry (including one who has written a book for single women), a professor from Oral Roberts University, a staff counselor at Southern Wesleyan University and a gifted worship leader. These women are coming to invest in you! I want you all to meet Chene Tucker, Suzie Judd, Nicole Doyley, Laurie Vervaecke, Beth Taylor, B.Kay Jones, Rebekah DeConna, Alesya Vitorsky, Stina Brockmann and my daughter Margaret Grady Turner. I believe they have a word from the Lord for you!
…Bold Venture is not a "conference." I call it a retreat because we limit the number of women who can come so we can keep it intimate. The retreat revolves around relationships. We eat all our meals together, we meet in small groups during the weekend, and speakers actually spend lots of time with the women who attend. We also have dynamic worship, informative panels, audience participation and intense prayer ministry. Our goal is to help you become a mentor to others.
…I meet some many women today who feel the call of God and yet don't know what steps to take to reach their goals. I believe mentoring is a key to unlocking this potential. I invite you to join us in Augusta in September. Just go to bold-venture.com to register online. The registration is only $75 which includes four shared meals. We also offer scholarships to women who are college age (18-22) or to single moms who have financial challenges. (You can simply reply to this email to request a scholarship.)
...I believe men today have the same needs for mentoring. So many men today did not have fathers, or their fathers didn't provide the spiritual and emotional support guys need to grow. At Bold Venture, men find deep healing from their "father wounds" as well as practical coaching to become strong leaders.
…Our next men's Bold Venture retreat will be held at Word of Life Church in Philadelphia, October 23-25. I hope you can join us! As you can see from the poster below, we have a great lineup of speakers. They include pastors from Maryland; Pennsylvania; Ohio; New Hampshire; Washington, D.C.; Toronto, Canada; and Reykjavik, Iceland! And men are coming from many ethnic backgrounds including Hispanic, Ethiopian, Russian and Caribbean. I believe this is going to be our best Bold Venture ever.
…The men who have come to previous Bold Venture events tell me that the highlight of the weekend is the relationships they build with other men. This is so crucial. We encourage the building of new friendships by meeting in small groups during the retreat and praying for each other often. Many guys also meet mentors during Bold Venture, and these connections are life-changing.
…Bold Venture is also special because there are no ethnic or generational barriers. Last year we had more than 12 languages represented in our men's event. We expect more languages this year! I have never experienced such deep fellowship as I do at these events.
...Please register today if you plan to come to either the women's or men's events this fall. On the web site you will also find the information about hotel reservations. Hotels are offering a discount for Bold Venture participants, but you must reserve your room soon to get the special rate.
I hope to see you either in Augusta or Philadelphia!
